INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Ouachita men's tennis team has earned the No. 2 spot in the latest NCAA Division II Central Region rankings.
The Tigers are 12-6 overall this year and 3-1 in MIAA/GAC matches as the postseason begins next week with the conference championship tournament in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Ouachita is the co-champion of the MIAA/GAC South Division this year, but will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, opening up against the No. 3 seed from the North Division, Nebraska-Kearney, on Wednesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at Edmond Center Court.
The rest of the central region rankings include Washburn at No. 1, Southern Arkansas at No. 3, Northwest Missouri State at No. 4, Harding at No. 5, and Nebraska-Kearney at No. 6.
The Tigers are seeking the program's 21st NCAA tournament berth this year.
In the latest ITA national rankings, the Tigers are ranked No. 29 this week as a team to go along with three players ranked nationally in singles in
Alex Blanchar (No. 12),
Phil Exner (No. 18), and
Fernando Docters (No. 64). In doubles, Exner and Blanchar are currently ranked No. 5 nationally. The duo of
Ramon Strassmann and
Fernando Docters is ranked No. 9.
