ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's cross country team put on a dominant display Friday morning to capture the Tiger Invitational with a perfect score of 15 and their second win on their home course this season.
Senior Allison Hylkema led the charge for the Tigers, crossing the finish line first out of 54 finishers with a personal-best 5K time of 17:43.6 to set a new program 5K record.
Fellow senior Katelynn Nachtigal followed close behind in second place by setting a PR of 18:09.98. Rounding out the top five finishers were Ouachita junior Blair Turpen in third at 18:21.37, senior Elise Knight in fourth at 18:27.33, and junior Emmeline Burrow in fifth at 18:36.59.
Junior Lucy Holden finished sixth in 18:38.66 and sophomore Meg Swindle took eighth at 18:52.18, while juniors Ellie Hoemann (ninth, 18:55.28), Emelia Eriksson (tenth, 18:59.01) and Hannah McGuire (12th, 18:59.59) gave Ouachita 10 runners that finished in under 19 minutes. 37 Tigers competed in the 5K race and 36 runners finished within the top 50, marking Friday's regular season finale one of the most complete team performances in program history.Â
Ouachita aims to carry its momentum into the postseason as the Tigers build toward the Great American Conference Championship on Oct. 25 in Monticello, Ark.
