TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Ouachita men's soccer team was blanked on the road Saturday, falling 4-0 to Northeastern State at DeLoache Field.
Ouachita discovered a determined effort from freshman midfielder Philip Bölk, who accounted for three of the Tigers' four shots on goal. Bölk's first chance was an early penalty kick in the 13th minute following a foul in the box, but his shot was saved by RiverHawks goalkeeper Cameron McColloch. Bölk continued to attack early in the second half and forced two more saves from McColloch in the 46th and the 68th minute, but the Riverhawks junior goalkeeper secured four saves to preserve the shutout.
Northeastern State (5-3-2, 2-2 GAC/MIAA) broke through late in the first half as freshman Kash Dunkel scored in the 37th minute off an assist from junior Guilherme Nakamura. The RiverHawks controlled the possession 53% to 47% and carried their momentum into the second half, adding goals from freshman Marco Cornelio in the 51st minute and sophomore Carter Adams two minutes later to seal the 4-0 result.
Ouachita (1-5-2, 0-3 GAC/MIAA) managed seven total shots and four shots on target. The Tigers have a chance to bounce back and find the net as they continue their road swing in Kansas next week, starting Oct. 9Â when they travel to face Newman, followed by a match at Fort Hays State on Saturday, Oct. 11.
