RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Ouachita senior Dillon Staal delivered his finest stretch of performances to earn his tenth career shutout and claim one final Great American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honor.
Staal closed out his senior season with three consecutive shutouts, anchoring a Tigers defense that refused to concede a goal down the home stretch. After Staal posted clean sheets over Newman and Harding earlier in November, the Gonzalez, La. native finished with a flawless, four-save performance in Ouachita's 1-0 road win at Southern Nazarene on Saturday. Staal faced 33 total shots and secured eight saves during the Tigers' three-match win streak to finish his senior campaign with five shutouts, tied for the third-most in the GAC.
Ouachita head coach Wes Holifield was not surprised how Staal closed the curtain, because his recent performances defined the resilience he always played with. What stood out most to Coach Holifield was how the Wall of Staal stood tall in the most critical moments.
"Throughout his career, he performed his best when he was under pressure," Coach Holifield said. "With his back to the wall and when we needed him most, he consistently stood up for us. He exemplifies the hard-nosed, resilient nature of our program everyday."
Ouachita (6-9-3, 4-7-1 GAC) closed the 2025 season by winning four of its last five matches, each fueled by the remarkable composure of its senior goalkeeper, who commanded the Tigers to post their best record since 2018.
"When we had to have him make a big-time save in a critical moment, he was always up to the task," Holifield said. "He's just got that big game instinct that comes out in the biggest moments."
As Staal walked off the field one final time, he left a legacy that will transcend the men's soccer program beyond 2025.
