STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- The Ouachita wrestling team lost 30-19 in a Friday night match at Tarleton State.
Ouachita junior Justin Shaw kicked it off at 125, storming back down 5-0 to secure two late takedowns in the third period and earn an 8-6 decision over Noah Clayton to give the Tigers their only lead. Tarleton State controlled the next six matches before Ouachita (3-3) finished with three wins in the final three bouts. Sophomore 184-pounder Lucas Brooks prevailed with a statement win in his return to the starting lineup, collecting four takedowns to earn a 19-4 tech fall over Laird Borbon in 5:23.
Sophomore 197-pounder Cayden Byrd met Tarleton State's Collin Vazquez for the second time this season after the two grappled in the Viking Open finals. Byrd emerged victorious in both bouts, controlling the rematch before pinning Vazquez in 5:46. Heavyweight BK Seago showcased his arsenal with five takedowns to earn a 17-2 tech fall as time expired in the final bout. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week improved to 5-1 this season with five consecutive bonus-point wins.
Ouachita has two weeks to prepare to face MIAA foe Fort Hays State on Dec. 6 in Kansas.
