ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita swimming & diving teams crossed the street Friday night to take on New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference rival Henderson State and came back carrying a pair of victories.
The Tigershark women pulled away for a 118-87 win, while the 20th-ranked Tigershark men held on for a 104-101 victory over 21st-ranked HSU. The men's 200 freestyle relay teams gave the Tigersharks what they needed for the dual win with a first-place finish in the final event of the night. The final margin in between first and second place was eight one-hundredths of a second.
The first-place 200 free relay team for Ouachita included Stefan Duca, Sam Ragsdell, Ian Redman Aguilar, and David Ware. Their combined time was 1:24.15. The third place team from Ouachita in that event consisting of Vince Pal, Tyler Andruss, James Savarese, and Blayz Hood also played a key part in limiting HSU's points.
The Tigershark men's team had four of the top five finishers in the dual. Ragsdell was Ouachita's top performer and tied for the meet-high with three individual event wins.
Andruss, Duca, and Anthony Paculba finished third, fourth, and fifth overall. Andruss had two event wins and one third-place finish. Duca had two event wins and one second-place finish. Paculba had one event win.
Anna Phelps was the top finisher for both squads on the women's side with three event wins and a final total of 547.7 for the meet. Eden LaTurno finished second overall in points. Britta Andruss and Kaylee Stika finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
- Phelps started her productive day with a big win in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing first by more than 12 seconds. Tigershark teammates Kaitlyn Koenig and McKenzie Jones were second and third in the event.
- Phelps also had wins in the 400 individual medley and took first in the 500 freestyle behind teammates LaTurno and Koenig in second and third, respectively.
- LaTurno had a close win in the 200 free with a margin of less than a second.
- Andruss, LaTurno, and Aurora Ruiz swept the top three spots in the 100 butterfly.
- Stika won the 100 breast in the closest race of the women's dual, beating out HSU's Monroe Chittum 1:10.34 to 1:10.48.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
- Andruss earned Ouachita's first win of the night, taking first in the 1,000 freestyle by more than 10 seconds. Andruss also won the 500 freestyle by more than eight seconds,
- Ragsdell came along to get wins in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle,
- Paculba turned in a season-best 4:04.85 for a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley.
- Duca tallied a close win in the 100 backstroke with less than a second in between him and HSU's Nojus Skiritus in second.
- Redman Aguilar and Ware took second and third, respectively, in the 100 butterfly.
The Tigersharks close out the 2025 portion of the schedule December 19 in Cleveland, Mississippi at the Delta State Shootout.
