TIGERS TAKE GAME THREE, WIN WEEKEND SERIES

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team picked up a 4-2 win over the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Sunday to clinch the weekend series victory.

It was another hot start for Ouachita in the series finale. The Tigers sat down Arkansas-Pine Bluff in order on a foul out and two strike outs to open the Sunday afternoon game. Ouachita followed it up with a four-run bottom half of the inning. Jordyn Merrett started things by reaching on an error and Baylee King followed with a single, moving Merrett to third. Merrett then stole home thanks to a double steal to get the Tigers on the board.

In the next at-bat, Emily Reed hit a two-run homer to right center, putting Ouachita up 3-0. The final run of the inning came thanks to another UAPB error on a ball hit by Emily Whitman that allowed Remington Adams to score from second base and give the Tigers a 4-0 lead after one inning.

However, that was the last of the scoring for Ouachita. The Tigers held the Golden Lions scoreless through four innings before UAPB broke up the shutout bid by plating two runs in the fifth off a single down the left field line to make the score 4-2. Ouachita held the Golden Lions to no hits and just two baserunners over the final two innings to secure the 4-2 victory and win the weekend series.

King and Olivia See tied for the team lead in hits, both going 2-for-3 at the plate, with King adding a run scored. Reed led the offense with two RBI.

Catie Amador earned her third win of the season in her sixth start. Amador pitched 5.0 innings, struck out five and allowed just three hits and two runs.

Kodee Batchelor earned her second save of the year after just 0.1 innings of work, striking out the final batter of the game.

The Tigers start Great American Conference play next Friday, February 21 when they host East Central University in a three-game series scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Langston Field.
