KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference has announced Ouachita's Phil Exner as the league's first men's tennis athlete of the week for the 2025 spring season.
Exner, ranked No. 2 nationally in singles and No. 12 nationally in doubles with teammate Ramon Strassmann, was undefeated this past week in wins over Collin College and Weatherford College at home.
The senior from Konstanz, Germany was 2-0 in first position doubles with Strassmann and also 2-0 in first position singles.
In the spring opener on Friday against Collin College, Exner and Strassmann took down their doubles opponents 6-3. In singles, Exner needed extra points to win the first set over CC's Minjae Kim, but came back to win the second set handily at 6-2.
The next day, Exner and Strassmann blanked their opponents from Weatherford 6-0 before Exner made quick work of WC's Alexis Leguizamon at No. 1 singles with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Exner is now a five-time MIAA/GAC Athlete of the Week for his career. He and the Tigers are back in action this Saturday on the road against Arkansas-Fort Smith for the first conference matchup of the season.
