SEARCY, Arkansas – The Ouachita softball team dropped game three to the No. 17 Bisons of Harding University by the final score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
No. 17 Harding struck first with a four-run first inning. The second and third innings were scoreless on both sides, despite Ouachita and Harding getting runners on base in each frame. The Tigers cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning.
Remington Adams led off the inning with a double down the line, and two batters later,
Katelyn Provence hit her first home run of the season to make the score 4-2. The two-run shot to right field was the second home run of Provence's career.
After holding the Bisons scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Harding did scratch a run back in the fifth inning on an RBI single to take a three-run lead over the Tigers. Ouachita put the tying run at the plate with one out in the top of the seventh but could not bring them around and the Tigers fell by the final score of 5-2.
Ouachita tallied a total of 10 hits in the loss, their fourth game with double-digit hits so far this season.
Baylee King led the offense after going 3-for-4 at the plate, bringing her average to .400 for the season.
Adams and Provence each recorded two hits in the loss. Provence posted a 2-for-2 performance at the plate with two RBI, a home run, and a walk. Adams went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.
Tuesday Melton pitched 3.1 innings in relief of the starter
Catie Amador and recorded a strikeout while allowing just one run.
Kodee Batchelor pitched the final two innings for Ouachita, allowed just one hit and struck out two.
The Tigers will look to get back on track when they make the trip to the Sooner State to take on No. 8 Rogers State University in a midweek non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 4 in Claremore, Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
