ARKADELPHIA – Oklahoma Baptist salvaged one game in this weekend's series against the Ouachita baseball team with a 21-9 win over the Tigers on Saturday at Rab Rodgers Field.
The Tigers won the series on Friday with a pair of one-run victories by scores of 1-0 and 4-3. With the results of the series, the Tigers move to 13-15 overall and 10-8 in GAC games. The Bison are now 17-11 overall and 10-8 in the GAC.
The first part of Saturday's game featured a back-and-forth rally for both teams with Ouachita striking first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a solo homerun from Isaac Nowell on the first pitch of the inning.
OKBU answered and equalized with three runs in the top of the second. The Tigers came back with another three-run inning in the third, highlighted by a two-run triple from Gavin Jacobs.
Ouachita built a 7-3 lead with a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Garrett Graham. OKBU got back on the board next with two in the top of the fifth to make a 7-5 game. Ouachita went up 8-5 on an RBI single from Austin Gathright in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bison cashed in on a two-out error by the Tigers in the top of the sixth to take a 10-8 lead. The big blow in that inning was a three-run homerun from Jayden Shafer. That lead extended to 11-8 in the seventh on a solo homerun by OKBU's Zane Bennett.
Ouachita's final run came in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI groundout from Cole Bedwell.
The Bison rallied for 10 runs in the top of the ninth to account for the lopsided finish.
The Tigers ended up with 12 hits in the loss. Graham, Jacobs, Gathright, and Jaxson Jester all had two hits.
Ouachita stays at home next weekend to host Arkansas Tech for a three-game GAC series at Rab Rodgers Field.
