TECH TAKES TWO

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team came up two runs short in both ends of a Saturday double header at home against Arkansas Tech by final scores of 7-5 and 3-1 in favor of the Wonder Boys.

The Tigers struck first in both games, but the Wonder Boys rallied late in both to earn the series win.

In game one, Ouachita outhit ATU 8-7 led by Wesley Scott's 3-for-5 performance and two hits each from Jaxson Jester and Reece McWilliams. Gavin Jacobs was 1-for-3 and led the team in RBI with a sac fly as a part of Ouachita's two-run first inning and later an RBI single in the third inning to put the Tigers up 3-1.

Tech made it a one-run game in the sixth inning before securing its first lead of the game with a five-run rally in the top of the eighth. Ouachita rallied to score two in the bottom of the ninth, but the Wonder Boys stalled the rally and ended the game a double play.

Chase Oberle (3-3) took the loss for the Tigers, giving up five runs on seven hits with one walk while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.

In game two, Garrett Graham hit his team-leading sixth homerun of the season in the bottom of the second inning to break up the scoreless tie. However, ATU pitcher Daniel Hutchison kept the Tigers out of scoring position for the rest of the game in route to his complete game win on the mound. Tech took advantage of a pair of Tiger errors to score the go-ahead runs in the top of the sixth.

Luke House (4-4) was saddled with the loss in game two despite giving up zero earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.

The Tigers will look to salvage one game in the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
