SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team dropped its GAC doubleheader against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday afternoon on the road.
Game One: Oklahoma Baptist 8, Ouachita 0
The first game of the day saw Oklahoma Baptist jump out to an early lead and keep it. Ouachita tallied four hits in what became an 8-0 loss in the second game of the three-game weekend series.
Jessalyn Ahrens went 1-for-1 with a walk to lead the offense.
Callie Kilburn did not give up a hit in 1.2 innings of relief work.
Game Two: Oklahoma Baptist 5, Ouachita 4
It was a closer story in the series finale. The Bison struck first with one run in the bottom of the opening frame. Ouachita tied things up in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from
Katelyn Provence that scored
Remington Adams. Oklahoma Baptist added four runs between the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 5-1 lead.
Heading into the seventh inning, the Tiger offense woke up.
Emily Reed doubled with one out and was brought home with the next at bat after an RBI Double from Adams to make it a 5-2 game.
Marli Huddleston followed with a single to put two runners on and the tying run at the plate with one out. One batter later, Provence hit a two-RBI triple, the second triple of her career, to right field to bring the game within one run with two outs. However, the Tiger rally ended there, and Ouachita fell by the final score of 5-4.
Provence and Reed each went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Provence added three RBI. The Tigers outhit the Bison 9-6 in the loss.
Catie Amador got the start and struck out seven in 6.0 innings of work.
The Tigers will look to get back on track this Tuesday, March 25, when they travel across the Mississippi River to take on Christian Brothers in a non-conference doubleheader set to start at 1 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee.
