RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita softball team kept things close, but dropped both games of its conference doubleheader to the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech Thursday afternoon.
Game One: Arkansas Tech 3, Ouachita 0
The first game of the afternoon saw Arkansas Tech strike first with one run in the bottom of the opening frame. From there, both sides were held scoreless for the next four innings. Ouachita got its first hit in the third inning thanks to a
Baylee King single. Arkansas Tech added two runs in the sixth and the Tigers fell by the final score of 3-0 in game one.
King and
Remington Adams were the two Tigers to record hits in the loss.
Kate Provence was walked each time she stepped to the plate, going 0-for-0 with three walks.
Game Two: Arkansas Tech 2, Ouachita 1
The second game of the day was a true pitchers' duel, with both Ouachita and ATU going scoreless through the first four innings of action. The Tiger defense worked its way out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the second thanks to a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat and keep things scoreless.
Ouachita got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning.
Remington Adams got aboard the bases with a one-out double and
Jessalyn Ahrens brought Adams around to score with an RBI single in the next at bat, putting the Tigers up 1-0.
Tech answered back in the bottom of the frame, tying things up with an RBI double. Ouachita put the go-ahead on base in the seventh inning, but they were left stranded. The Golden Suns plated one run in the seventh to give Ouachita the 2-1 loss.
Adams, Ahrens, and King each recorded hits in the loss.
Marli Huddleston was walked twice.
Karley Burrow got the start and gave up just one run through 4.2 innings of work.
The Tigers will look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow with game three, which is set to start at noon in Russellville.
