ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team fell 9-1 in the series finale against the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders on Sunday evening at Henderson State's Dee White Field.
The game was moved across the street to HSU's Dee White Field due to field conditions at Ouachita's Langston Field.
Southern Arkansas started off with two runs in the first inning of the Sunday evening game against Ouachita. The Tigers held the Muleriders scoreless in the second and fourth innings, but SAU added four runs in the third and three in the fifth.
Ouachita and its offense got on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Katelyn Provence led off the inning with a single.
Rylee Gentzel followed with another single but was called out trying to stretch it to a double, moving Provence to third base.
Ella Blakely recorded her first collegiate RBI with a sacrifice fly that scored Provence, breaking up the shutout bid.
Marli Huddleston followed the sac fly with a double to right center with two outs but was left on base and Ouachita fell by the final score of 9-1.
Six Tigers recorded hits in the loss, with
Marli Huddleston and
Kennedy Wilkie both going 1-for-1 at the plate.
Catie Amador got the start in the circle and struck out four in 2.1 innings, but gave up four runs, earning the loss.
Karley Burrow pitched one inning scoreless relief work, allowing just two hits.
The Tigers will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 11 when they walk back across the street to take on cross-street rival Henderson State in a GAC midweek doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at HSU's Dee White Field.
