RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Great American Conference has selected Ouachita's
Sadbaroy Kholdarova as the league's women's tennis player of the week.
The award comes out concurrently with the latest ITA national rankings, featuring Kholdarova at No. 41 in singles, which is an 11-spot increase from last week. The 2024 Great American Conference Freshman of the Year is currently 22-6 in singles this year, including a 12-1 mark at the No. 1 line this spring.
Kholdarova, a sophomore from Uzbekistan, was an extra-point doubles loss away from a perfect week covering three matches for the Tigers. She was a perfect 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles in wins over Weatherford College (6-1) and UT-Dallas (7-0) and a conference loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-2).
In the win over Weatherford, the seventh-ranked junior college team in the nation, Kholdarova and teammate
Natalia Zamora Caprirolo started with an extra-point doubles win at No. 1. In singles, Kholdarova rallied back from a first-set loss to take down the 10th-ranked junior college player, Claire Mahere, in a tiebreaker.
Two days later, Kholdarova and Zamora earned a convincing win at No. 1 doubles over their counterparts from UT-Dallas. Kholdarova then made quick work of her Comet opponent at No. 1 singles.
In Ouachita's GAC opener this past Sunday, Kholdarova and Zamora came up short in an extra-point rally against the 10th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation in Southeastern Oklahoma State's Jou Chen Chen and Carol Mora Camacho. Kholdarova kept her perfect singles record for the week intact with a win at No. 1 over Camacho.
Kholdarova and the Tigers are back in action Thursday and Friday with non-conference road matches against Maryville and William Jewell.
