ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team dropped the series finale against Henderson State by the score of 10-6 Wednesday night at Langston Field.
This was the final game of the regular season series against Henderson State. Ouachita won the first two games of the series in a doubleheader at HSU on March 11.
Ouachita started off the Wednesday night game strong, striking first with an RBI double from
Remington Adams that scored
Baylee King to put the Tigers on top 1-0 after the opening frame. Henderson State responded with a run in the second inning to tie things up 1-1. The Reddies added three more in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
The Tiger offense roared to life in response, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third.
Katelyn Provence came home thanks to an error to get the scoring started and make it a 4-2 game. With two runners on,
Marli Huddleston homered for the third time in her last three games, this one good for three runs to put the Tigers on top 5-4. Ouachita added to its lead a few batters later when an RBI single from
Jordyn Merrett scored
Jessalyn Ahrens who reached on a double to give the Tigers a two-run lead heading into the fourth inning.
However, HSU answered with a total of six runs over the final three innings. The Tigers put runners in scoring position over the final few innings but could not bring them home. Ouachita fell by the final score of 10-6.
Emily Reed and Merrett each recorded multiple hits in the game. Merrett led with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with an RBI.
Marli Huddleston went 1-for-2 with three RBI, a home run, and two walks.
The Tigers will look to bounce back in the final home series of the season this weekend against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Game one is set for Friday, April 11 at 4 p.m. at Langston Field.
Saturday's doubleheader will see Senior Day festivities prior to the day's doubleheader and a special memorial dedication for the late Mike McGhee, the former head coach of the Ouachita Softball program between games one and two.
