ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita volleyball team posted a season-high.337 hitting percentage and held UT-Dallas to negative hitting to earn a convincing three-set victory over the Comets on Friday night at home.
The Tigers recorded a season-low 10 errors in the win with nearly the entire starting lineup hitting at least .300 individually. The Tigers move to 6-1 on the season matching last year's record through the first seven matches.
Riley Braziel led the Tigers offensively with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while adding seven digs defensively.
Kailey Thedford added nine kills with only one error on 20 swings for a .400 hitting percentage.
Leah Gardner had eight kills and only one error on 13 swings for a .538 percentage.
Courtney Hanson had production in all areas of the game with three kills on five attempts with no errors, a match-high 31 assists, a match-high three service aces, and a team-high 10 digs.
Kylie Kisgen was second on the team in digs with nine.
Ouachita never trailed in Friday night's match. The Tigers had three three-point runs in the first set and closed out the frame on a four-point run. Ouachita committed only one attack error in the first set and hit .545 as a team. Three more three-point runs came in the second set. UT Dallas turned in its worst set of the night in the third, hitting in the negative with seven errors and only four kills. The Tigers started the third set on a 4-0 run.
Saturday is the final day of the Tiger-Reddie Challenge. Ouachita hosts two matches at the Sturgis Physical Education Center. The first is at 10 a.m. between Auburn-Montgomery and Arkansas-Fort Smith. Ouachita takes on AUM at 1:30 p.m.
