ARKADELPHIA – The attack from the defending GAC/MIAA champion Southern Nazarene men's soccer team proved relentless as Ouachita Baptist allowed a pair of goals in each half during Thursday's 4-0 loss to start conference play at Kluck Field.
Senior captain Kristian Baker made a phenomenal tackle to stop the initial breakaway, but SNU drew first blood when a lofted pass from the corner deflected off his head. Goalkeeper Dillon Stall tried to punch the ball away from the box to clear it out, but freshman Luis Uruiza was there to recover and score a header in the 40th minute to give Southern Nazarene a 1-0 lead.
The Crimson Storm (3-2-1, 1-0-0 GAC) broke through just two minutes later when freshman Kaden Slaven finished a pass from Mourad Siaka at the top of the box to double the lead and put Ouachita in a 2-0 hole before halftime. Any hopes of a comeback were put to bed early in the second half when Slaven struck his second goal on an assist by junior Dylan Roberts in the 48th minute to stretch the lead. The Crimson Storm capped the scoring and delivered a final blow with a late goal in the 89th minute from junior Bekir Lekic.
Ouachita's offense did get off seven shots, but any true opportunites were stifled before freshman forward Ian Matta Germosen tried to connect on the Tigers lone shot on goal late in the 76th minute. All-GAC/MIAA goalkeeper Dillon Staal secured one save against five shots on goal from the Crimson Storm. Southern Nazarene held possession for over 55% of the match and outshot Ouachita 12-7.
The Tigers (1-3-2, 0-1-0 GAC) will look to regroup over the next 36 hours before returning to Kluck Field on Saturday for a tough GAC match against 11th ranked Rogers State.
