PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Ouachita Baptist University men's and women's track and field teams posted a strong weekend of performances at the Pitt State Invitational, highlighted by two individual event victories along with a dozen top-10 finishes against a competitive regional field inside the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Ouachita women's team turned in a strong showing as five runners finished inside the top 10 in their respective events. Sophomore Addi Durand paced the Tigers with a runner-up finish in the 600 yard run at 1:27.29, crossing the finish line less than two-tenths of a second behind the event winner from invitational host Pitt State.Â
Senior Dylan Dew captured the first individual win for Ouachita with a program record-setting 1:51.99 finish in the 800 meters. Dew showcased his experience and closing speed, taking control down the final stretch to secure the victory. The senior's sub-1:52 finish reached the Division II Provisional Qualifying Standard, which enters Dew in a ranking of runners eligible for consideration to be selected for the indoor national championships.Â
Freshman Caleb Greenwich captured first place in the 3,000 meters run, settling into the lead pack early before separating himself late in the race. Greenwich crossed the finish line first in 8:24.90 to set a school record and continue a strong start to his college debut.
Seven Ouachita men finished inside the top-10 across the meet, including sophomore Rocco Patrick, who placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 18.20 meters to set a school record. Freshman Nathan Bradford took seventh in the long jump at 6.71 meters and set a program record in his first collegiate indoor event.Â
Two sprinters set new school records on the track, including sophomore Aden Hecht, who turned in a tenth-place performance in the 200 meters with a time of 22.26. Junior Gavin Rainey ran a 49.38 in the 400 meter dash to set a Ouachita record.Â
The Pitt State Invitational marked an early-season test for Ouachita to compete against teams from across the region. The Tigers will look to build on the momentum from this weekend as both teams rev up the indoor track and field season in February.
