ARKADELPHIA – Tiger pitcher
Chase Oberle tossed a complete game and the offense scattered 10 hits to highlight a 6-2 victory on Friday in Ouachita's Great American Conference series opener against East Central.
Oberle (1-1) kept the game moving with only four batters over the minimum through the first five innings. ECU (4-6, 3-1 GAC) rallied to score one in the sixth and added one more in the eighth, but Oberle settled down to retire five of the last six to preserve his complete game on the mound and save the Ouachita bullpen for Saturday's double header. It was Oberle's first career complete game in his third season at Ouachita.
Offensively, the purple Tigers (7-2, 2-2 GAC) scratched one across in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from
Joseph Bolin.
The big rally came in the fourth with four touching home plate to give Ouachita a 5-0 lead.
Raygan Yager had an RBI double in the rally.
Reece McWilliams had an RBI bunt single.
Jaren Ceasar also had an RBI single in the frame.
The final Ouachita score came in the form of an RBI single by
Connor Hill in the eighth for an insurance run.
Ouachita's 10 hits marked the team's fourth double-digit performance of the season and second straight after tallying 13 in the midweek win over Harding this past Tuesday.
Saturday's double header between the two sets of Tigers is set for a noon start at Rab Rodgers Field.
