TEXARKANA, Texas — The Ouachita softball team split Tuesday's doubleheader at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, riding a dominant shutout performance in the circle from junior Karley Burrow to salvage a 1-0 victory.
Ouachita broke through in the second inning of Game 2 after freshman Alaina Lyle ignited the bats with a double to right field, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Burrow helped her own cause and drove in the lone run with an RBI single to left field. The two-way junior led the Tigers with two hits and held the Eagles scoreless in seven innings to secure her first win of the season.
The Tigers dropped the opener 3-1, but nearly stole momentum after they strung together consecutive base hits to spark a late rally down to their last out. Lyle ripped a double to right field, then junior Jordyn Merrett followed with an RBI single up the middle. Merrett advanced into scoring position on the throw home to bring the tying run up to the plate, but the comeback bid fell just short. Lyle finished 4-for-6 at the plate and increased her hit streak to six games.
The non-conference split moves the Tigers to 5-9 overall. Ouachita hosts Harding for a three-game rivalry series, starting on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at Langston Field.
