SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped its fifth straight game Sunday, closing the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge with a pair of narrow losses against Missouri Western State.
The Tigers battled through extra innings before the Griffons pushed across the decisive go-ahead run in the ninth. Ouachita left the ghost runner at third base with an opportunity to level the score in the bottom of the ninth. Freshman catcher Addison Davidson led the Tigers with three hits in the opener.Â
Junior Karley Burrow delivered a solid outing in Game 2, tossing 5.1 innings of scoreless relief pitching to keep the Tigers within striking distance. Emily Reed continued a strong start to her junior campaign and went 5-for-8 at the plate with three doubles and three RBI in Sunday's doubleheader. Ouachita cut the deficit to 3-2 after Reed launched her second home run of the season over the left field wall to lead off the sixth inning, but the Tigers later stranded the bases loaded with an opportunity to level the score.Â
Ouachita (1-5) returns to Arkadelphia to host Union (Tenn.) for a three-game series next weekend, starting on Friday at 4 p.m. at Langston Field.
