ARKADELPHIA – Fifth-ranked Washburn came out on top on Thursday in a battle of two nationally-ranked men's tennis teams, beating 29th-ranked Ouachita by a final score of 5-2 at the Heflin Courts.
Washburn took the early lead with a clincher on court one of doubles with the nationally-ranked duo of Benjamin Fock and Zino Nahirniak beating
Yarin Aebi and
Ramon Strassmann in a close 6-4 match. A few moments earlier, the Tigers had earned a victory on court three with
Tinus Mueller and Maximilan Brenner beating their Ichabod counterparts 6-3. WU earned a convincing win on court two to start doubles.
Strassmann kept his undefeated spring record intact by making quick work of his singles opponent on court one, beating 26th-ranked Pavlos Parson by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Strassmann is now 12-0 this spring, all at line one.
Guillaume Randoux earned the other Tiger point, knocking off Washburn's Moritz Pieper 6-1 and 6-2 on court five.
The Tigers got close to another point on court six with Mueller coming back after losing the first set to win set two 7-5 to force a tiebreaker. WU's Fock broke the tie 10-6 to finalize the match.
Ouachita is back in action this Saturday at home against Drury. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
