MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Ouachita baseball team opened its Spring Break midweek series on the road against Christian Brothers with a 12-2 victory over the Buccaneers on Tuesday at Nadicksbernd Field.
The Tigers (15-13) wasted no time to take an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single from
Cade Bowman.
Bowman kept that momentum going into his next at bat with a grand slam home run over the left field fence to put his team up 7-1 and give him six runs driven in for the game.
Starting pitcher
Payton Sterritt contributed to his own run support with an RBI single in the third. Sterritt earned his first Ouachita pitching win after giving up just two runs on four hits in the first five innings. Zack Kirkpatrick and
Grant Johnson combined to keep the Bucs (6-23) off the board in the sixth and seventh innings.
The NCAA 10-run rule after seven innings kicked in thanks to run-producing at bats later in the game from
Reece McWilliams and
Octavio Mendivil. The Tigers also took advantage of eight walks, two wild pitches, and two balks from the CBU pitchers.
The Tigers reached double digits in runs for the fourth time this season and double digits in hits for the 10th time.
The Tigers and Bucs are back in action on Wednesday for the second and final game of the week. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Nadicksbernd Field.
