RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita baseball team split its Saturday Great American Conference double header on the road against Arkansas Tech with a 9-2 win in the first game followed by a 4-0 loss in the series finale.
The Wonder Boys (20-15, 15-6 GAC) earned the series win after also winning on Friday night in the opener 5-2.
The Tigers (16-16, 10-11 GAC) led from the first inning of the first game of Saturday's twinbill when
Cole Bedwell hit an RBI single to drive in
Cade Bowman, who singled earlier in the frame.
Joseph Bolin opened a three-run third inning for the Tigers with an RBI single. The other two runs in the rally came on a sac fly by Bedwell and an RBI single by
Reece McWilliams.
Tech cut its deficit in half with a two-run fourth inning, but Tiger pitcher
Chase Oberle kept the Wonder Boys off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Oberle (2-2) finished with just five hits allowed to go along with five strikeouts and no walks in the final five innings. Starter
Austin Bagnall had four quality innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits in the first four frames.
The final runs for the Tigers came on a solo home run from Bolin in the fifth, a bases-clearing triple from Bowman in the eighth, and an RBI single from
Jaren Ceasar in the eighth.
In the finale, Tech's pitching staff kept the Tigers scoreless on just four hits in the scheduled seven-inning affair. Meanwhile, the Wonder Boys plated three in the second inning and one in the sixth.
Ashton Ybarra was 2-for-4 at the plate in the finale to account for half of Ouachita's hits in the game.
After being on the road for their last eight games, the Tigers return to Rab Rodgers Field for their next eight, including a midweek game against Harding on Tuesday and a three-game GAC series against Arkansas-Monticello next weekend.
