The Ouachita women's track and field team turned in a statement weekend on the west coast, highlighted by a school record broken by sophomore Addi Durand and three additional NCAA provisional marks at the Bryan Clay Invitational, while another crew of Tigers combined for four individual event victories at the Dan Veach Invitational.
Competing against a stacked Division 1 field in California, Durand reset her own program standard in the 800 meters and clocked an NCAA provisional time of 2:10.54 to place 26th overall. Durand led a trio of Tigers that reached provisional marks, joined by seniors Katelynn Nachtigal and Elise Knight in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Nachtigal finished in 43rd with a time of 10:35.32, with Knight followed behind in 46th at 10:37.10.
Junior Joey Babel added a strong showing in the 400 meter dash, winning her individual heat and finished 18th overall with a time of 54.95. Junior Belled Lindsey placed third in her 400 meter hurdles heat and finished 13th overall at 1:01.05. Freshman Zyron Brock paced the Tigers in the field events with a 15th-place finish in the triple jump at 11.57 meters (37 feet, 11.5 inches).
Back in Magnolia, the Tigers dominated the competition at the Dan Veach Invitational, hosted by Southern Arkansas. Ouachita collected four individual event wins.Â
Junior Ellie Hoemann led the way with a victory in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.35, while senior Ashley Dillman followed in third at 2:26.47. Ouachita's depth was on full display in the 1,500 meters, where seven of the top eight finishers sported a purple Tiger. Junior Lucy Holden won the 1500 meter race in 4:59.95, which was the lone sub-five-minute performance. A trio featuring freshman Landry Lay (5:08.57), sophomore Meg Swindle (5:15.90) and freshman Emma Rhodes (5:16.49) followed to complete a Tiger sweep of the top four spots.
Freshman Taegan Herrien added another victory in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing in 1:07.38, while freshman Arionna Black took second at 1:09.38. Herrien also placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches).Â
In the hurdles, sophomore Bella Maxson secured third in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.71. Freshman sprinter Jaydyn Johnston placed fourth in the 100 meter dash at 12.10, then added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.86.
The Tigers excelled in the field events, led by junior Brenlee Leonard's victory in the shot put with a throw of 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8.75 inches) on her first attempt. Sophomore Ariana Neal finished second in the shot put with a distance of 11.90 meters (39 feet, 0.5 inch) and later added a third-place showing in the javelin with a mark of 32.94 meters (108 feet, 1 inch). Sophomore Charley Stallings cleared 3.20 meters (10 feet, 6 inches) to take third in the pole vault, while junior Rachell Dunn also placed third in the triple jump at 10.96 meters (35 feet, 11.5 inches).
Ouachita returns back to Arkadelphia with 10 days to train for the Great American Conference Championships, hosted by Harding from April 29 through May 1 in Searcy.
