ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita baseball team used explosive innings in the first and last frame on Sunday to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 10-2 and secure a Great American Conference series victory over the Rangers.
The Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and four in the ninth to bookend the convincing victory. Starter
Austin Bagnall was also a key factor in Sunday's win as the senior right-hander earned his first career complete-game victory at Ouachita.
The series win was a must for the Tigers, who are now just one game away from the eighth place spot in the GAC standings with one week remaining in the regular season. The GAC tournament will feature the top eight teams.
Ouachita's five runs in the first inning on Sunday came on two swings, a two-run double by
Kyndall Cassidy and a three-run home run by
Raygan Yager.
In the middle innings, Ouachita took a 6-2 lead in the fifth on a solo home run by
Joseph Bolin, his team-high seventh round-tripper of the season.
The Tigers took advantage of errors and wild pitches in the ninth-inning rally, which started with a two-run double by
Garrett Graham.
Ouachita will face Southern Arkansas on Tuesday night in Magnolia for the team's final midweek game of the regular season before heading across the street next weekend for a three-game GAC set against Henderson State.
