ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team opened its Great American Conference series against league-leading Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday at home with a 6-5 win in 12 innings.
Cade Bomwan delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 12th with a shot off the wall in left field to drive home
Octavio Mendivil who had a one-out single earlier in the inning and moved to third on a single from
Ashton Ybarra.
A few innings earlier, the Tigers rallied to force extras with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a bases-loaded walk from
Cole Bedwell and a sac fly from
Reece McWilliams.
The Weevils started Thursday's scoring with a single run in the top of the third inning. Ouachita responded in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead with a sac fly from Mendivil and Bedwell's first bases loaded walk of the game.
UAM scored the next four with two runs in the sixth and another two in the eighth to hold a 5-2 lead before Ouachita rallied to tie the game in the ninth.
Chase Oberle earned his second straight win out of the bullpen by holding the Weevils to just one run in the final 1.2 innings. Starter
Austin Bagnall had a no-decision after allowing just one run on four hits in the first five innings.
The Tigers ended up with 10 hits in the win, marking the team's 14th double-digit performance of the season. Ybarra, Mendivil, and
Jaren Ceasar all had two hits in the game.
Games two and three of the series will be played as a double header on Friday. First pitch is set for noon at Rab Rodgers Field.
