WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Ouachita softball team split Thursday's road doubleheader at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers rolled to a 10-1 victory powered by a season-best offensive outburst in the series opener before falling 5-4 in a tightly contested nightcap.
Ouachita (13-26, 9-14 GAC) erupted for a season-high 15 hits and scored 10 runs to set the tone and take the opener. Seniors Remington Adams and Jessalyn Ahrens, along with freshman Morgan Uher, led the Tigers with three hits each to pace a balanced attack at the plate.Â
The Tigers struck first as freshman Addison Davidson dropped a blooper into shallow right that bounced off a diving outfielder and allowed Adams to race home from first base. Ouachita added a run in the second as junior Olivia See battled through a full count before lacing a triple the other way down the left field line.
Uher delivered an RBI double off the centerfield wall, then later scored on a single up the middle from junior Emily Reed to make it 4-0. The Tigers duo capitalized on defensive miscues before breaking it open late. Uher sparked another rally in the final frame with an RBI triple to right field, then Reed capped it off by beating out an infield single to put the game out of reach. Uher finished with a standout performance across Thursday's doubleheader, tallying five hits and four RBIÂ for the Tigers.Â
Catie Amador pitched the eighth complete-game of her sophomore season, striking out four batters while the Bulldogs scattered just three hits. Amador (7-10) held SWOSU to just one earned run to lower her season ERA to 2.91 in the series opener win.Â
The momentum shifted in Game 2 as Southwestern Oklahoma State (12-28, 6-17 GAC) built an early 4-0 lead. Ouachita answered in the fifth inning as Adams ignited the late rally with a single to left-center. Uher delivered a two-run single down the left field line, then later crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to level the score at 4-4.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a fielding error to score the decisive go-ahead run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior Karley Burrow took the loss after allowing four earned runs over six innings in the circle. Ouachita will look to claim the series in the rubber match on Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for noon in Weatherford.
