Men and Women's Soccer Both Fall To West Florida by Scores of 1-0

ARKADELPHIA, AR- The Men's and Women's soccer teams traveled to Pensacola, Florida on Friday for match-ups with the University of West Florida Argonauts and Lady Argonauts. Both teams fought hard, playing tough with squads that are notorious for being some of the best in NCAA Division II, but in the end, both teams gave up a single goal in their respective games and fell to West Florida by a score of 1-0.

The Lady Tigers (4-4, 2-1 GAC) participated in a non-conference match-up with the Lady Argonauts, as they have moved into the Great American Conference for the 2011 season. The Lady Tigers took eight shots, as compared to West Florida's nine, but just couldn't get one to land in the back of the net, as West Florida goalkeeper Lauren Byrd collected two saves and the shutout while Ouachita senior goalkeeper Whitley Hoppe collected three saves but allowed the only goal of the game at the 72:28 mark of the game, forcing the score to 1-0 and sealing the victory for West Florida.

The Tigers (2-5-1, 0-2 GSC) participated in what would be their second Gulf South Conference match-up of the year, as they were just unable to pull of the upset of West Florida, also falling by a score of 1-0. Ouachita goalie David Henley played all 90 minutes of the contest, collecting four saves while only allowing a single goal, which took place in the first half of the contest. That goal was scored by Andre Verardi of West Florida at the 40:23 mark of the game. West Florida goalkeeper Ramon Sealy collected a save in the match-up off of the Tigers six shots.

Both teams return to action on October 9, when they travel to Huntsville, Alabama to face off with the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Those games will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's game, followed by the men's game shortly after.
