Lady Tiger Softball Splits Doubleheader at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss.- Following a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-International on Wednesday, the Lady Tigers (14-11) traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi on Thursday for another doubleheader, this time against the Lady Statesmen of Delta State. Ouachita recorded a 6-3 victory in the first game of the afternoon, before falling by a score of 4-1 in the second.

In the first game, Rayn House took the victory, moving to 8-4 on the season. House pitched the full seven innings, giving up four hits and three runs, all of which were earned, while striking out five batters. Megan Askew proved to be the difference in the contest, knocking two balls out of the park and finishing the game with four runs batted in during a 2-of-3 performance from the plate. Teresa Mursuli and Sara Strassemeyer recorded the other two runs batted in for the Lady Tigers. Ashleigh Allgood took the loss for Delta State, falling to 5-5 on the season, with two losses coming to Ouachita. She gave up seven hits and five runs, three of which were earned.

In the second game of the afternoon, Ouachita recorded nine hits but was only able to record one run to show for it. Abbi Frakes fell to 5-6 on the season for the Lady Tigers after pitching five innings and giving up four runs, three of which were earned. Jocelyn Jones recorded the lone run batted in for Ouachita, while Alexis Johns was the only Lady Tiger to finish with a multi-hit game during her 2-of-4 performance in the game. Delta State's Gonzalez took the victory, pitching all seven innings while giving up nine hits and a run to the Lady Tigers.

Ouachita returns to action on Saturday, when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State for a weekend series. Games will begin at 1 p.m. at Sully Anderson Field in Arkadelphia.
