Baseball Unable to Overcome Savage Storm, Suffer Doubleheader Loss on First Day of Weekend Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers (14-13, 6-2 GAC) traveled to Durant, Oklahoma this weekend for a weekend series against conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Tigers' pitchers performed admirably, but it wasn't enough, as the Tigers fell in both games by scores of 2-0 and 2-1.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Ryan Westover took the mound, throwing 7.1 innings and holding the Savage Storm to three hits and two runs. The Tigers finished the game with eight hits, but they just weren't able to get anybody across home plate, finishing with a 2-0 loss. Keegan Ghidotti and McCrae Jones both finished with 2-of-4 performances from the plate. Peter Bako knocked in both of the Savage Storm runs, finishing the game with a 2-of-4 performance from the plate and two runs batted in. Cameron Mann took the win for Southeastern, throwing 1.1 innings in relief and recording two strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, both teams continued to struggle to score, as the Tigers took a 2-1 loss in a game in which both teams finished with five hits. Davis Ward pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and two runs, one of which was earned. Tom Ward recorded the lone run batted in for the Tigers, while Brock Green finished 2-of-4 from the plate. Jones was walked twice in the game for the Tigers. Blake Gentry and Spencer Barnett were the two runners who scored for Southeastern, as Keith Price recorded the only run batted in for the Savage Storm. Brandon Marris took the win for Southeastern, pitching 5.1 innings and only giving up two hits while adding seven strikeouts. Mann came in to relieve Marris, picking up the save for the Savage Storm.

Ouachita returns to the diamond on Sunday, when they look to avenge their losses on Saturday in a single game that will begin at 1 p.m.
