Tigers Sweep Doubleheader Against Arkansas Tech to Open Conference Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Tigers (12-10, 2-0 GAC) began conference play on Friday afternoon with a bang, starting off 2-0 with victories over Arkansas Tech (10-12, 1-4 GAC). In the first game of the double-header, the Tigers showed put on an offensive clinic, scoring 10 runs and winning the game by run rule in eight innings. The Tigers took game two by a score of 5-4 on a walk-off single by Keegan Ghidotti, scoring Parker Norris from second base.

In the first game of the double-header, the Tigers posted an impressive performance on offense, as well as on the defensive side of things. Ryan Westover recorded the win for the Tigers, pitching all eight innings and recording a shutout while only giving up three hits and three walks. Westover collected six strikeouts in the game. Landon Flax contributed three RBI's for the Tigers, despite going 0-of-4 from the plate. Keegan Ghidotti finished the game with a 2-of-4 performance, adding two RBI's for the Tigers. McCrae Jones continued his hot streak for the Tigers, posting a two hit performance, while Sean Noland also finished with two hits. Landon Moore roped a pitch to right field and recorded the only triple of the game for Ouachita. Aaron Luchterhand was credited with the loss for the Wonder Boys, throwing five innings and giving up eight runs, four of which were earned, on nine hits. The Tigers finished the game with a 10-0 run rule victory in just eight innings of play.

 In game two of the day, Ouachita moved to 2-0 in conference play with another victory over the Wonderboys. Davis Ward went 6.1 innings deep, recording five strikeouts and giving up four runs. Zac Treece came in to relieve Ward, pitching .2 ininngs and recording a win. Jones finished 3-of-3 from the plate, including a two run home run over the right field wall. Jones recorded all four RBI's for the Tigers in the game. Caleb Powers took the loss for Arkansas Tech, throwing 6 innings and giving up five runs, all of which were earned. The Tigers move to 12-10 on the season with the win, placing themselves two games above .500 for the first time in 2012.

Ouachita will continue their weekend series with the Wonder Boys on Saturday. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
