Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.- As the Ouachita Tigers (23-20) traveled to Russellville for a match-up with the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech (21-22) on Tuesday, one can only suspect that they did not see the game going the way that it did. The Tigers used a five hit, seven run performance in the top half of the ninth inning to practically steal Tuesday's non-conference game by a score of 15-10.
Ryan Westover started the game for the Tigers, but received a no-decision after pitching three innings and giving up seven hits and two runs, one of which was earned.
Kurt Peppenhorst ended up with the victory for the Tigers, coming in during the sixth inning and pitching a solid 2.2 innings while giving up three hits and two runs.
The game was back and forth until the Wonderboys took a one run lead going into the ninth inning. Ouachita answered with more than just the neccessary two runs to take the lead in the top of the ninth though, ripping the cover off the ball and posting five hits and seven runs, including a double from
Matt Balogh and singles by
Keegan Ghidotti,
Tom Ward,
Landon Moore and
Parker Norris. A number of other Tigers got on base in other ways, including walks, errors by Tech and a hit by pitch.
Tech ended up scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth, but their late effort fell short, as the Tigers literally stole one at Tech field by a final score of 15-10. Ghidotti, Ward and Moore all finished the game with two RBI performances, while Ward posted a 4-of-6 performance from the plate. Only three of the nine batters in the lineup for Ouachita finished the game without at least one RBI, while only two players finished without a hit.
The Tigers look to continue their late season momentum this weekend, when they host the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas, who currently sit in second place in the conference standings. Games will begin on Saturday at noon.
