Lady Tigers Drop Doubleheader on the Road Against Southern Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Kicking off their last conference series of the season, the Ouachita Lady Tigers (18-27, 6-18 GAC) traveled to Magnolia, Arkansas on Saturday for day one of action. The Lady Tigers ended up in a couple of close battles, including an extra inning game to finish off the day, but the Lady Muleriders of Southern Arkansas (22-31, 9-17 GAC) ended up taking both. The Lady Tigers dropped the first game by a score of 1-0, before falling by a score of 3-2 in the extra inning bout.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Lady Tigers recorded five hits, but were unable to squeeze anyone across home plate. Rayn House took the loss for the Lady Tigers despite a solid six inning performance in which she only gave up seven hits and the lone run in the game, as well as seven strikeouts. Ouachita's Alexis Johns finished the day 2-of-3 from the plate, while also being hit by a pitch. Hanna Gill took the win for Southern Arkansas, recording six strikeouts in seven innings of work. The only RBI of the game came in the third inning, when Taelor Wheeler singled to right field, scoring Mackenzie Spanko for Southern Arkansas.

The second game of the afternoon ended similarly for the Lady Tigers but under more unusual circumstances, as the Lady Muleriders knocked home the winning run on a bunt, which turned into an RBI single for Wheeler, scoring Spanko from third base to end the game. Abbi Frakes took the loss for the Lady Tigers, throwing 8.1 innings and giving up three runs, all of which were earned, while recording three strikeouts. No Lady Tigers finished the game with more than one hit, while Megan Askew and Sara Strassemeyer finished the game with an RBI. Strassemeyer's RBI came off of a double in the third inning. Hanna Gill pulled a day of double-duty, throwing all nine innings of game two as well and picking up five strikeouts while only giving up two runs.

Ouachita looks to rebound from the doubleheader sweep on Sunday, when they face off against the Lady Muleriders again beginning at 1 p.m.
