Lady Tiger Softball Splits First Day of Seven State Softball Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BENTONVILLE, Ark.- The beginning of the Ouachita Lady Tigers' slate of games at the Seven State Softball Classic in Bentonville, Arkansas kicked off similarly to the rest of their season so far. The Lady Tigers kicked their weekend off with a 2-0 loss to the University of Nebraska-Kearney (1-2), before turning it on in their second game, a 12-6 win over Oklahoma-Panhandle State University (2-8).

The Lady Tigers (4-6) had a great performance from Abbi Frakes on the mound against Nebraska-Kearney, but two unearned runs proved to be the difference in the game.

UNK's runs both came in the third inning, each of which was allowed due to a Lady Tiger error. Frakes threw seven innings and only gave up two hits while recording six strikeouts, but it wasn't enough, as the offense struggled to get anything going.

UNK's Becky Dunn threw a no-hitter, going seven innings and recording seven strikeouts. She narrowly missed a perfect game, allowing two walks in the game.

In Thursday's second game, the Lady Tigers found their offensive groove, knocking 12 runs across home plate and holding Oklahoma-Panhandle State to six. OPSU was the first team to  score, as a groundout to the pitcher allowed their runner to score.

In the second inning though, the Lady Tigers answered with five runs, two of which came on a double from Parrish Reed, which scored two runners, and three of which came on a 3 RBI homer from Megan Askew.

Oklahoma-Panhandle State answered Ouachita's runs with a couple of their own in the bottom of the second, tying the game at five with three runs in the half inning.

Runs in the third and sixth inning for the Lady Tigers were the deciding factor though, as the Lady Tigers scored four runs in the third and another three in the sixth.

Ouachita started Amber Oxford on the mound, as she picked up her second win of the year, throwing five innings and holding OPSU to four earned runs.

The Lady Tigers are back at it on Friday, as they take on Concordia-St. Paul and Rockhurst University. They will kick off their day at 2 p.m., taking on Concordia-St. Paul.
