BENTONVILLE, Ark.- Sunday morning at the 7-State Invitational in Bentonville saw a tough pair of games for the Ouachita Lady Tigers, as they had to first face off with Northwest Missouri State, followed by a match-up with Missouri Southern State.
The Lady Tigers were never able to get it going Sunday, dropping their game against Northwest Missouri by a score of 5-2 and their game against Missouri Southern by a score of 6-2.
In the Lady Tigers' match-up with Northwestern Missouri, they actually held a tie for much of the game and even a lead at one point, but a four run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning did the Lady Tigers in. Ouachita's runs came due to a RBI single from
Jocelyn Jones and a home run from
Megan Askew.
In the fourth inning, Northwestern notched a 2 RBI home run, an unearned run due to an error, as well as a RBI single, giving them a 5-2 lead, which they would hold the rest of the way.
Abbi Frakes threw six innings and recorded a strikeout, but five runs, only three of which were earned, was too much for Ouachita to overcome.
As they kicked off their second game of the day, the Lady Tigers were able to get a quick start, scoring a run in the top of the first on a RBI double from
Kailey Madden. A three run bottom half of the inning from Missouri Southern negated the Lady Tiger run though and MSSU never trailed from that point on.
Missouri Southern's first inning scoring came due to two home runs and a RBI double. They put up another two runs in the fourth inning, one of which came on a passed ball, and the other coming on a RBI single. MSSU would score again in the fifth inning on another RBI single.
Ouachita came out in the top of the seventh looking to rally, but the Lady Tigers were only able to put together a single run, coming off of a sacrifice fly to left field from
Kailey Madden, which scored
Brianne Baley from third base.
Amber Oxford was hit with the loss, after throwing two innings and giving up three runs, all of which were earned.
Ouachita will finally get a chance to play at home on Thursday, February 21, when they host Newman University at Sully Anderson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Newman won the first meeting between the two teams this season, while Ouachita defeated them in a 5-3 final the next day.
