Lady Tiger Softball Splits Day Two of Southeastern Regional Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DURANT, Okla.- Another tough set of games was in store for the Ouachita softball team (3-5) on Saturday, as they continued their weekend at the Southeastern Regional Invitational.

In the first game of the day against Northeastern State, the Lady Tigers played a solid four innings to start the game, before giving up 10 runs in the last two innings of play and falling by a score of 10-2.

Fortunately for the Lady Tigers, their second game of the day was a much different story than the first. Ouachita took on the Jennies of Central Missouri, recording a 4-2 victory and handing the Jennies their first loss of 2013.

Against Northeastern, three straight hits to start the inning got things rolling for the Riverhawks, as they batted through their line-up and notched eight runs in the inning. The Lady Tigers answered with two, but weren't able to come close to the 10 runs for Northeastern in just two innings of play.

Ouachita's Olivia Guin recorded both of the Lady Tigers' RBIs in the game, finishing 1-of-2 from the plate. Megan Askew was walked twice in the game, but still finished 0-for-1 from the plate. Northeastern's trio of Saharra Henson, Lindsea Ross and Amanda Harjo notched nine RBIs in the game (three each) en route to their 10-2 win.

Alex Files took the win for the Riverhawks, throwing 4.1 innings and holding the Lady Tigers to two earned runs. Abbi Frakes took the loss for the Lady Tigers, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up five earned runs.

In their win over Central Missouri, the Lady Tigers saw a fantastic performance from Abbi Frakes on the mound. Frakes pitched all seven innings of the game, recording 11 strikeouts and only giving up four hits and two runs, only one of which was earned.

The Lady Tigers got the bats going early, when Suzie Gresham recorded an RBI single in the second inning, scoring Olivia Guin from second base.

In the third inning, Megan Askew came in and railed a ball over the fence, giving Ouachita a 2-0 lead with a home run.

The Jennies got their first run of the game in the sixth inning, when Jakki Prater grounded out to second base, allowing UCM's Medora West to score from third base. The Lady Tigers answered UCM's run with two more of their own in the seventh though, as Kailey Madden came in and belted a 2 RBI home run, scoring herself and Nici Starkey on the play.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Jennies put together a bit of a rally, as Ashlea Bengtson got on with a single, which she capitalized on by advancing home on an error, cutting the Lady Tiger lead to just two. The Jennies then used a single from Kristen Heil to advance Sarah Espy to second.

A groundout resulted in Heil and Espy advancing to second and third, but a pair of flyouts to left field ended the game and sealed the win for Frakes.

The Lady Tigers are back at it on Sunday in Durant, when they take on Missouri Western State and Washburn University. They kick off their day at noon against Missouri Western.
