WEATHERFORD, Okla.- The Ouachita Tiger baseball team entered Saturday's game against Southwestern Oklahoma looking to fend off a conference series sweep. It was the first time that they were put in such a situation so far this season, and unfortunately, they were unable to defeat the Bulldogs, falling by a score of 2-1.
The Tigers outhit the Bulldogs 6-4, but three errors proved to be the difference in the game, as both of Southwestern's runs were scored due to mistakes.
Ouachita's lone run of the game came in the sixth inning, when
Jace Melby, who was 1-of-2 on the day at the time, singled up the middle and brought home
Landon Moore. Two of Ouachita's six hits in the game came in the sixth, but they weren't able to string together any more.
In the top of the ninth, the Tigers moved a runner all the way to third base, but a groundout to third base sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
Josh Everett pitched a great eight inning performance, holding Southwestern to just four hits while recording two strikeouts. The two runs that were allowed by Everett were unearned.
Melby and Moore were the only Tigers with multiple hits, with both notching 2-of-4 days from the plate.
Ouachita returns to the friendly confines of Rab Rodgers Field on Friday, March 29, when they face off with Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Friday.
