Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers women's soccer team picked up their first Great American Conference win of the season on Friday, defeating the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers 2-1.
The Tigers' offense took control early in the first half, as Ouachita attempted 12 shots in the first 30 minutes. The 13
th shot came in the 33
rd minute, when Ouachita's
Kasey Smith found the back of the net on a header after a cross from
Morgan Allen.
The last 17 minutes of the half ended with the Tigers still leading 1-0. Ouachita attempted a total of 14 shots in the half, compared to NWOSU's nine.
Llauren Llanes, who earned her first start at keeper for the Tigers, recorded four saves in the half.
Nine minutes into the second half,
Haley Hatcher scored her sixth goal of the season on a shot that was just out of the keeper's reach. Hatcher's goal against the Rangers currently places her atop the GAC in goals this season.
After Hatcher's goal, the Rangers pulled within one in the 67
th minute, bringing the score to 2-1. The Ouachita defense proved strong, however, and the match ended without another goal.
Hatcher led the Tigers with a season-high 11 shots. She also recorded five shots on target. Smith followed with three total shots.
Llanas finished the match with eight saves, and allowed just one goal.
The Tigers (2-7-1, 1-1-0 GAC) will host Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday, Oct. 5, for their third conference match of the season. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
