Ouachita rolls to a 54-21 win over SWOSU

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A season-high homecoming crowd of 3,382 watched the Ouachita Tiger defense force six turnovers and return three for touchdowns in route to 54-21 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State. Defensive end Kyle Lamothe returned two fumbles for touchdowns and AJ Burton returned a fourth-quarter interception 70 yards for six.

Matt Ehasz got the Tigers on the board early in the first quarter, connecting on a 36-yard field goal to give Ouachita a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs of Southwestern would answer on the ensuing drive, scoring on a one-yard run by Karl Hodge to give Southwestern their only lead of the day, 7-3.

On their next possession, Ouachita quarterback Kiehl Frazier would hit running Brandon Marks on a throw-back and Marks would take it 32 yards for the score and give Ouachita a 10-7 lead. With 1:37 left in the first quarter, Tigers linebacker Jordan Harold forced a fumble on the Southwestern 20 yard line. Kyle Lamothe scooped the ball up and ran it back 20 yards to give Ouachita a 17-7 lead.

After exchanging possessions in the second quarter, Ouachita added three more to their lead on another 36-yard field goal by Ehasz. With 49 second left in the half, Ouachita's Eric Ashburn would recover a fumbled punt on the Southwestern 16 yard line. On a first and goal, Kiehl Frazier would connect with Evian Hill for the touchdown with 19 seconds left in the half.

On the first play of the SWOSU drive, Tiger Barkley Legens forced a fumble. Lamothe returned it for his second touchdown of the game and the Tigers led 33-7 at halftime.

Ouachita forced a Bulldog three and out to start the second half. Ouachita put together a nine play, 52-yard drive capped off by a one-yard dive by Frazier. Both offenses would stall for most of the third quarter, exchanging punts.

The third quarter would end with a sack of Bulldog quarterback Klark Ashmore by Demetric Jennings.

Tiger returner and cornerback Etauj Allen started off the fourth quarter with a 36-yard punt return to give the Tigers a first and goal on the SWOSU four yard line. Running back Steven Kehner would plow it in from on the first play and give Ouachita the 47-7 lead.

Southwestern would start their next possession on their 34 yard line. They drove the ball down to the Tiger 35. On a second and seven, AJ Burton jumped the route on an Ashmore pass and returned it 70 yards for the score.

Ouachita would give up two late scores on passes from Ashmore to receivers Teverick Boyd and Brian Robinson. Ouachita would win by a final score of 54-21.

On the day for Ouachita, Kiehl Frazier finished 9-15-0 for 82 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He rushed 10 times for 30 yards and a score.

Steven Kehner carried the ball 20 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry.

Brandon Marks had two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Evian Hill finished with two catches for 15 yards and a score. Jalen Jones led the Tigers with three receptions for 33 yards.

Defensively for Ouachita, Ricardy Joseph led the team with 10 tackles. Rotimi Oladejo Jr. finished with eight tackles and one fumble recovery. Dave Fair finished with six tackles and one sack.

Ouachita improves to 4-0 on the season. They travel to Alva, Oklahoma next Saturday (10/11) to take on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
