Tigers Complete Weekend Sweep Over Conference Foe ECU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers won both games of a doubleheader at Rab Rodgers Field to complete a three-game sweep of East Central University and improve their record to 7-3 and 3-0 in Great American Conference play.

Right hander Luis De Jesus went eight innings in game one, allowing only one run and scattering six hits. He gave up the one run in the top of the third and then threw five scoreless innings.

Catcher Chris Tavares broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a double to the left field wall scoring Parker Norris from second. Norris had reached second base on his second stolen base of the game. Jace Melby would reach on a fielder's choice later in the inning that would get Tavares home to make it 3-1 heading into the top of the ninth.

Keegan Ghidotti came in to close out the ninth for Ouachita. He struck out two of the three batters he faced to get the save.

Game two featured OBU hurler Craig Daniell matching up with East Central's Icezack Flemming.

OBU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Seond baseman Tyler Faught and First baseman Will Wallace led off the inning with walks. Shortstop Justin Weigel singled to load the bases. Landon Moore would hit a hard grounder to the ECU second baseman who would lose the handle trying to throw the ball to the shortstop for the double play. The error allowed Faught to score from third and Wallace scored from second.

ECU would score in the top halves of the fourth and fifth innngs to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers would rally with back-to-back doubles from Ghidotti and Tavares to give Ouachita a 3-2 lead.

Both teams would go down in order in the sixth.

Keegan Ghidotti would again be called upon to close out the game for Ouachita. He would allow a two-out single in the seventh, but retired the next batter to get his second save on the day.

Ouachita closed out the conference homestand 3-0.

They travel to Searcy on Tuesday to play a doubleheader against Harding.
