Lady Tigers Split Conference Opener With Southeastern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Lady Tigers opened Great American Conference play today at Sully Anderson Field. They split a doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma State, running their overall record to 5-7 and 1-1 in the GAC. Junior Shelby McWhorter pitched a nine inning shutout to get the win in the day's second game, 1-0.

In game one, Teresa Mursuli got things started for Ouachita when she doubled home Jessica Branam to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Southeastern broke the game open in the third, scoring two runs on a two-out single and two more on a two-run homer.

Suzie Gresham doubled home Daniella Brantley in the sixth to cut the Southeastern lead to 4-2, but were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities late in the game.

Abbi Frakes took the loss for Ouachita. She pitched all seven innings, giving four runs on 10 hits. She struck out five and walked two. McElroy got the win Southeastern.

Game two went into extra imnnings. Shelby McWhorter gave up only three hits in nine innings and got the complete-game victory. The Lady Tigers' offense produced ten hits, but were unable to get a run home until the bottom of the ninth.

Suzie Gresham stole second after an intentional walk and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Daniella Brantley would single to bring Gresham home and get the Lady Tigers the win.

The two teams square off again tomorrow in another doubleheader at Sully Anderson Field. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 pm.
