Tigers Struggle to Score, Drop Two Games to SAU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers were downed twice by the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders on Saturday, losing 4-0 and 4-1 in the doubleheader games.

In game one, Abbi Frakes started at pitcher for the Tigers and threw for five scoreless innings, striking out four. In the six inning, however, the Lady Muleriders rallied for four runs, including a three-run homer by Shelby Miller.

The four runs were the difference in the game, as the Tigers were shut out, despite recording two more hits than Southern Arkansas. Frakes pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, and striking out five batters.

In game two, the Lady Muleriders struck first again, scoring two runs in the second inning and one in the third. The Tigers attempted a comeback in the fifth inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by Brianne Baley, but SAU was able to end the inning after the lone run. Southern Arkansas then added one run to their lead in the seventh inning to make the score 4-1, which ended as the final.

The Tigers out-hit the Lady Muleriders once again in game two, recording eight hits compared to SAU's seven. Shelby McWhorter was handed the loss in game two, as she pitched a complete game. McWhorter gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits and struck out three batters.

Jocelyn Jones led the Tigers with two hits, and Baley was 1-2 with an RBI.

The Tigers (7-11, 3-5 GAC) will go to the University of Arkansas at Monticello next weekend in a four game series. Games begin on Saturday at 1 p.m.
