Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader against the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs on Tuesday, despite out-hitting CBU 17-16 on the day. Final scores of the games were 3-1 and 4-1 in favor of the Lady Bucs.
Game one proved to be a pitcher's duel, as OBU's
Abbi Frakes and CBU's Tiari-Jay Fernandez only allowed one run each in the first five innings. The Tigers' lone run came when
Kayley Willingham led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double. Willingham was later advanced to third after a single by
Jessica Branam and then scored on an RBI-single by
Kailey Madden. Ouachita could not score more than one run in the inning, however, leaving three Tigers on base.
With the score tied at one after five innings, the Lady Bucs rallied in the top of the sixth to create a 3-1 lead. The two runs came off a Kylie Steagall homer that also scored Jennifer Gonzalez.
After a scoreless sixth inning for the Tigers and a scoreless seventh inning for the Lady Bucs, the Tigers headed into the bottom of the seventh with one last chance at a comeback. In the bottom of the seventh, Branam reached first on an error, and Madden singled immediately after. Eventually, Branam reached third base and Madden reached second. With two runners in scoring position, however, the Tigers could not score and the game ended 3-1.
In game two, the Lady Bucs took control early, again, scoring three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Tigers then scored one in the bottom of the fifth, as well, off an RBI-double by Branam, but could not get any closer than 4-1.
CBU brought in Amanda Wade in relief of starter Kasey Beekman, and Wade allowed two hits in two innings but no runs, giving the Lady Bucs the 4-1 win.
Frakes was handed the loss in game one, and
Shelby McWhorter ended up with the loss in game two.
Amber Oxford also pitched in game two and gave up zero runs in two and one-third innings.
Brianne Baley led the Tiger offense, batting 4-6 and scoring one run on the day. Madden followed going 2-5 with an RBI.
The Tigers (8-16, 4-8 GAC) will host Northwestern Oklahoma State on March 14 and 15 for a four-game series.
