Lady Tigers Split Weekend Series Against Southwestern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Lady Tigers played a four-game series in Weatherford, Oklahoma this weekend and finished 2-2 against the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Ouachita moves to 11-21 overall and 7-13 in the Great American Conference.

Friday - Game 1

The Lady Tigers dropped game one to SWOSU, 3-1. Southwestern scored all of their runs in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on four hits. Lady Tiger starter Abbi Frakes only allowed three more hits over the next five innings and stuck out five.

The lone run for the Lady Tigers came in the top half of the fourth when a Daniella Brantley sacrficie fly scorred Kailey Madden from third.

Southwestern held the Lady Tigers to four hits in game one.

Friday - Game 2

Southwestern lost a two-run lead in the top of the seventh, when the Lady Tigers bats caught fire. Ouachita scored six runs on four hits on their way to a 7-4 win over the Lady Bulldogs. 

After opening the inning with two walks, Suzie Gresham doubled home Kailey Madden to cut the Southwestern lead to one, 3-2. Olivia Guin singled  up the middle, scoring Teresa Mursuli. Daniella Brantley followed with a double down the right field line to score Gresham and Brianne Baley. Guin would score on an error and Madden would single home Brantley to make it 7-3.

Southwestern would score one in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout by Frakes in relief would end it with a final of 7-4.

Shelby McWhorter(2-6) picked up the win for the Lady Tigers. She gave up three runs, two earned, on two hits over six innings, striking out two. 

Kailey Madden and Daniella Brantley each went 3-4. Both scored one run each and Brantley drove in teo.

Saturday - Game 1

Abbi Frakes allowed one run on six hits over eight innings and the Lady Tigers hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to win 4-1 over Southwestern Oklahoma State in extra innings. 

With the game tied 1-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning, Brianne Baley doubled to left center to score Kailey Madden from first. Kate Lucina followed with a double to left center, moving pinch-runner Taylor Anderson to third. Daniella Brantley hit the third consecutive Lady Tiger double to center field, scoring Anderson and Lucina. 

Southwestern could muster only a single in the bottom half of the eighth as Frakes (8-9) retired three of the four batters she faced to get the win.

Brantley went 1-3 with two RBI. Baley went 2-3, scoring once.

Saturday - Game 2

The Lady Tigers held a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but Southwestern scored four over the next two innings to win the final game of the series, 8-7.

Southwestern scored three in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Ouachita answered in the top of the second with a six-run outburst, ignited by a Kate Lacina homer to left. After a single by Kailey Madden scored Olivia Guin, Brianne Baley would hit a bases-loaded double down the left field line driving in three runs to make it 5-3. Lacina would get her second RBI of the inning with a single down the right field line to score Baley.

A fourth inning double by Daniella Brantley would score Suzie Gresham to make it 7-4.

Southwestern would score four runs in the bottom halves of the fifth and sixth to take a one-run lead, 8-7.

Kayley Willingham would lead off the seventh with a single, but the Lady Tigers were unable to get her home. Willingham went 3-4 in the game.

Amber Oxford (1-3) took the loss in relief. She allowed three runs on four hits in one inning of work. Shelby McWhorter got the start in game two. She allowed five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work. McWhorter struck out two. 

Lacina went 2-4 with two RBI. Jessica Branam went 2-5 with a run scored. Baley went 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

The Lady Tigers will play a doubleheader at Henderson State on March 25. first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
