ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers shut out the 24th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils on Friday, behind eight scoreless innings from Davis Ward. 

After holding the Weevils scoreless in the top of the first, the Tigers struck first. Parker Norris led off with a single and later stole second before advancing to third on a groundout by Landon Moore. Chris Tavares then stepped to the plate and grounded out to second base. Norris scored on the play, however, giving Tavares the RBI.

Neither team was able to score a run for the next three innings, until the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Keegan Ghidotti led off the inning with a triple to right center. Justin Weigel reached first later in the inning after being hit by a pitch. With two on and one out, Norris tripled, as well, off the right field wall, which scored Ghidotti and Weigel and put the game score at 3-0. 

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers added one more run to the scoreboard. The inning was started with another triple, this one coming from Moore. Moore scored later in the inning off an RBI from Matt Sinclair. 

Davis Ward, who started the game, threw for the first eight innings before Ghidotti moved from right field to pitcher to close out the game. Though the Weevils loaded the bases with two outs, Ghidotti was able to force a grounder to end the game.

Ward, who moved to 5-0 on the year, pitched eight scoreless innings, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out nine. Ghidotti pitched the single inning, giving up just one hit. 

Jace Melby led the Tigers with three hits, and Norris was 2-4 with two RBI's and one run.

The Tigers (10-9, 5-5 GAC) will take on UAM (14-6, 6-4 GAC) twice on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
