Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite seven scoreless innings from
Davis Ward and a two-run homer by
Jace Melby, the Ouachita Tigers fell 7-5 to the No. 9 Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys on Friday.
Ward, who started at pitcher for Ouachita, allowed only three hits through the first seven innings while the Tigers recorded six hits and four runs. The first two runs came in the top of the first inning when
Keegan Ghidotti tripled to score
Parker Norris, who reached base on an infield single. Ghidotti then scored, as well, on an RBI-groundout by
Chris Tavares.
The Tigers added to their lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run homerun to left field by
Jace Melby.
Matt Sinclair, who doubled to right field earlier in the inning, also scored on the play.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Wonder Boys rallied to score seven runs and take a three-run lead. During the inning, Arkansas Tech recorded seven consecutive hits, including five singles and two doubles.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Tigers attempted a comeback, starting with a leadoff triple from Melby.
Will Wallace scored Melby on an RBI-groundout later in the inning, but the Wonder Boys were able to record three outs before the Tigers could even the score, ending the game 7-5.
Ward (7-3) was handed the loss, pitching for seven and one-third innings and striking out five batters. Ghidotti replaced Ward in the eighth inning to finish the game. Melby led Ouachita's offense, batting 2-4 with a homer, a triple, two runs and two RBI. Ghidotti, Tavares and Wallace each recorded an RBI, as well.
The Tigers (19-22, 12-10 GAC) will take on Arkansas Tech again in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a home game against Texas A&M International on Wednesday, April 16, at 3 p.m.
