Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers split a doubleheader with the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns on Friday, winning the first game 4-0 behind
Abbi Frakes' seven strikeouts. The Lady Tigers fell 11-0 to the Golden Suns in the second game, however.
Game one proved to be a defensive battle, as neither team recorded more than five hits. One of Ouachita's five hits came in the third inning, when
Suzie Gresham doubled and later scored on an error to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers followed up the third inning with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The scoring came from
Kayley Willingham, who recorded an RBI for the first run and stole home while Gresham was involved in a rundown for the second run.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Lady Tigers gave Frakes one more run of support when
Teresa Mursuli doubled to right center field to score
Kailey Madden from second base. The Lady Tigers then recorded three outs in the top of the seventh to end the game ahead 4-0.
Frakes earned the complete-game shutout victory, giving up only five hits and striking out seven batters. Gresham led the Lady Tigers with two hits, and Willingham, Mursuli and
Jessica Branam each recorded one RBI.
Arkansas Tech's offense came alive in game two, as they scored 11 runs and recorded 14 hits. The scoring included two homeruns and an RBI-double. The Lady Tigers struggled offensively, recording only three hits and no runs.
Shelby McWhorter started at pitcher for Ouachita, but was replaced by
Amber Oxford after one inning. Oxford threw for three and one-third innings before
Emily Morgan recorded the last two outs for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers (15-29, 10-20 GAC) will host Arkansas Tech for another doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a four-game series with Harding beginning on Friday, April 18.
