Lady Tigers and Storm Combine for 42 Runs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Lady Tiger Softball split a doubleheader with Southern Nazarene on Saturday, losing the first game 5-3 but winning the second 19-15.
 
Game one was all SNU through the first five innings, as Southern Nazarene held a 5-0 lead before the sixth inning. Kayla Wyatt started at pitcher for Southern Nazarene and allowed no runs and only one hit through five.
 
The Lady Tigers attempted a comeback in the final two innings, fueled by homeruns by Brianne Baley and Kate Lacina. Lacina's solo homer came in the sixth, and Baley's two-run blast came in the seventh. Southern Nazarene was able to escape with the win, however, not allowing the Lady Tigers to score more than three runs.
 
Ouachita's Abbi Frakes was handed the loss, pitching a complete game and striking out seven. Wyatt earned the win for SNU, pitching all seven innings and striking out 10.
 
Game two was an offensive showcase for both teams that featured four homers and 37 hits. The Lady Tigers jumped ahead early, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. The scoring was highlighted by a two-run double from Kayla Golden and two RBI-singles from Daniella Brantley.
 
SNU closed the game with a six-run second inning, but the Lady Tigers answered with three runs in the third. After Southern Nazarene scored four in the bottom of the third, Ouachita scored four runs over the next two innings to take a 16-10 lead. In the top of the fourth, Kailey Madden doubled to right field to score Jessica Branam. In the very next inning, Parrish Reed belted a three-run homerun that scored Golden, Taylor Anderson and herself.
 
Clinging to a six run lead, the Lady Tigers gave up five runs over the next two innings but also added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win the game 19-15. Brantley provided the RBI in the sixth, scoring Branam on a double to left center. Baley then homered in the seventh to score Reed and herself.
 
Emily Morgan started at pitcher for OBU, but was replaced by Amber Oxford after one and one-third innings. Shelby McWhorter then came in to pitch for one and one-third innings and struck out two batters.
 
Frakes, who pitched the entire first game, replaced McWhorter and pitched for the last four and one-third innings. Frakes struck out six batters and was able to earn the save, giving McWhorter the win.
 
Brianne Baley finished the day with three hits, two homers and four RBI. Kayley Willingham, Kayla Golden, Daniella Brantley and Parrish Reed all added three RBI each.
 
The Lady Tigers (13-27, 8-18 GAC) will host Henderson State on Tuesday, April 8, for a midweek doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
